Windsor native Devine finding footing in pro game with SPHL’s Rivermen, garners monthly league honor

The SPHL has announced that Peoria Rivermen forward Garrett Devine has been named December’s Player of the Month.

Devine, a native of Windsor, had an electric month of production for the Rivermen in December.

In 11 games, Devine notched an impressive seven goals and contributed eight assists for 15 total points and finished with a plus-12 rating. Devine also had a hat trick, his second professionally, during Peoria’s 4-1 road contest in Evansville on Dec. 20.

Devine is in his second year with the Rivermen and his third professional season professionally. Devine is currently tied for sixth in overall scoring with 24 points and in assists with 15.

Back home, Devine played for the NCYH Jr. Eagles and Resurrection Christian High School before going to Cushing Academy for a season and one year in the NCDC with the South Shore Kings.

“I played in the NCYH organization growing up from age 8-16 and played for my dad who, in all honesty, has taught me every single thing I know about the game of hockey and there is a 0% chance I’m here without him being next to me every step of the way, said Devine. "I played my high school hockey at Resurrection Christian under Jake Pence who really helped me during my most transformative years as a player during my high school career. I went from being a 5-foot-2, 120-pound sophomore with eight points to a 5-foot-8, 160-pound junior with 42 points and he still held me accountable all the same and always made sure he pushed me every day no matter how much I grew and got better every year, and that was huge for my development.

“I take pride in never having been a AAA guy and doing all the travel and spending all the money. I just stayed at home and played with my best friends growing up and worked on my game and I don’t regret it for a second."

After Cushing, Devine played three years at NCAA Division I Providence College and two at NCAA Division III University of New England.

In the pro ranks, Devine played the end of 2023-24 with the ECHL’s Maine Mariners, the 2024-25 season with the Mariners and Bloomington Bison in the ECHL and the Rivermen, and then for the current 2025-26 campaign, with the Rivermen and ECHL’s Kalamazoo Wings.
