Tigers alum Smith coming home to Utah with ACHA commitment to Weber State

The NA3HL’s Helena Bighorns have announced that forward Mason Smith has committed to play ACHA Division II college hockey for Weber State University.

The Utah native spent two seasons with the Bighorns.

During the 2025-26 season, he recorded 12 points throughout the entirety of the regular and postseason with five goals and seven assists over 43 games.

“Mason was a two-year player for our organization,” said Bighorns head coach Damon Hanson. “Just 10 games into his first year, he had a knee injury. Coming back the following year, Mason was a big part of our success on the back end.

“It was a pleasure and we wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”

Smith made an appearance in the Dixon Cup championships during the 2023-24 season with the Colorado Springs Tigers’ 18U team. He also made an appearance in the 2026 Fraser Cup playoffs this past season with Helena.

One of Smith’s best performances of the year came on Feb. 20 against the Great Falls Americans where he scored one goal and recorded an assist to aid in the Bighorns’ 8-4 victory over the Americans.
