Tigers alum, Air Force blueliner Cunningham captures AHA Defenseman of the Month accolades

Air Force senior Nolan Cunningham has been named the Atlantic Hockey America Defenseman of the Month for October.

A preseason all-AHA selection from Helena, Mont., Cunningham had six points in eight games in the month of October. He added 12 shots on goal, nine blocked shots and was plus-3. He scored a point in five of the eight games in October, including two points (goal, assist) in the Lindenwood series and three (goal, two assists) in the Robert Morris series.

Against RMU, both of his assists were primary assists. In game one, he had the primary assist on Brendan Gibbons’ goal to give Air Force a 1-0 lead in a game that the Falcons never trailed in and blocked a team-high three shots. In game two, he scored Air Force’s first goal for a 1-0 lead. With the Falcons trailing 2-1, he had the primary assist on Christian Kim’s goal that tied the game in the third period.

The player of the month award is the first of the season by the Falcons and the first of Cunningham’s career.

During his youth hockey days, Cunningham spent time with the Colorado Springs Tigers.
