RoughRiders, Monarch alum, Superior native Wasik takes home weekly Atlantic Hockey award

Air Force junior Dominik Wasik has been named the Atlantic Hockey America Goalie of the Week in leading Air Force to sweep at Bentley, the AHA regular-season champion, last weekend.

The wins secured a first-round bye for the Falcons and the sixth seed in the playoffs. Bentley entered the week as the top scoring team in Atlantic Hockey, averaging more than three goals per game.

Wasik held Bentley to just two goals in the two games for a 1.00 goals-against average and a .967 saves percentage, stopping 59 of 61 in the series. In Game 1, the Superior native stopped 34 of 36 in the 3-2 win. His 34 saves are the second most of his career and just one shy of his career high. In Game 2, he made 25 saves in his fourth career shutout. He has two shutouts in his last three games and has made 29 consecutive starts.

Wasik’s four shutouts this season are tied for fourth in the nation. In Air Force’s conference era (since 1999-00), only four Falcon goalies have recorded more than four shutouts in a season (6 – Andrew Volkening – 2008-09; 5 – Billy Christopoulos – 2017-18; 5 – Jason Torf- 2011-12; 5 – Shane Starrett – 2016-17).

The weekly award is the fourth of the season and career for Wasik. It is the 11th weekly award earned by the Falcons this season.
