Lake City native, Mountaineers alum Wonnacott takes next step with Montana State commitment

The NA3HL’s Sheridan Hawks have announced that goaltender TJ Wonnacott has committed to play ACHA Division II college hockey for Montana State University.

Over the past two seasons, the Lake City native has been a reliable puckstopper for the Hawks, appearing in 39 games.

This past season, Wonnacott impressed many and left himself ranked towards the top of the league in most statistics. The 6-foot-2 goaltender’s 2.28 GAA ranked in the top 10 across all qualifying goaltenders. Wonnacott’s .918 save percentage and 47 total goals against had him in the top 15 across the league.

“TJ was a massive part of our team for the last two seasons and we are extremely happy to see him make this next step to a very credible and successful ACHA program,” said Sheridan head coach JJ Santagata. “It’s great to see him stay out west and we look forward to seeing him continue to excel at the collegiate level and get a great education.”

The best performance of the 2025-26 season from Wonnacott came on Oct. 31 against the Bozeman IceDogs. In that game, Wonnacott stopped all 23 shots that he faced and recorded his only shutout of the season as the Hawks defeated the IceDogs 3-0.

Back home, Wonnacott played for the Vail Mountaineers and Crested Butte High School.
