AHL’s Wolves re-sign captain, Erie native Slavin to two-year contract
The AHL’s Chicago Wolves have re-signed captain Josiah Slavin to a two-year contract.
Slavin enters his sixth professional season and third with the Wolves after helping Chicago reach the Calder Cup Finals in 2025-26. The winger recorded six goals and 19 assists for 25 points in 69 regular-season games before adding three goals and four assists in 21 postseason outings.
“My family and I love the organization, we love the team, we love the coach–we love everything about it,” Slavin said. “There’s nothing but excitement to come back.
“We all knew what could have been last year, so I think we’re going into this season with a little bit of a chip on our shoulders. We’re hoping to make another trip to the finals and this time finish the job. I just want to continue getting better and having fun. Last year was probably one of the most fun I ever had playing hockey, and I just want to continue that trend. It wasn’t a hard decision to want to come back to Chicago.”
Originally a seventh-round selection by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2018 NHL Draft, the Erie native has skated in 336 AHL games with Chicago, Toronto, San Diego and Rockford, tallying 56 goals and 71 assists for 127 points.
“I want to continue to help these young guys develop and get their NHL opportunities,” Slavin said. “It brings me a lot of joy knowing that as a leader I may have helped them in some way to get to their NHL debuts and just push them to be better players. That’s something I’ve really grown into the last couple of years.
“It means a lot to have the guys’ respect and their will to follow me. It’s awesome in that aspect. It’s a really great position to be in.”
The NCAA Division I Colorado College product has collected one assist in 17 career NHL games for Chicago and Carolina.
In Colorado, Slavin skated for the Hyland Hills Jaguars, Front Range Panthers and Colorado Thunderbirds.
